2022 International Symposium on Sustainable Systems and Technology (ISSST)
Now in our 29th year, ISSST is one of the longest-running research conferences related to sustainability and the intersection of technology, policy, and behavior. We are a vibrant community of engineers, scientists, professionals, and educators, sharing cutting-edge research and forming interdisciplinary teams for future collaboration. Our mission is to think beyond the traditional, and envision a future where science has no limits.
The ISSST 2022 Conference welcomes the submission of abstracts that apply methods utilized to define, design, assess, support, and/or implement technologies, policies, and systems for sustainability.
Conference Dates: June 21 – 23, 2022 Pittsburgh, PA
At this point, we are planning and in-person conference. Please know we will never risk the health of our community, and will be keeping a close watch on the safety of gatherings. If the situation is deemed unsafe by March of 2022, we will move to a virtual conference.
Call for Contributions: Due February 5, 2022
The 2022 conference will highlight the following thematic areas:
- Integrated human-physical systems
- This theme may include how to integrate human dimensions into sustainability design and implementations as well as research/projects focused primarily on linking knowledge with actions, environmental justice, decision science, participatory approaches, social LCA methods, etc.
- Infrastructure sustainability and resiliency
- ISSST is a leader in quantitative assessment of the sustainability and resiliency of the built environment and supports research on infrastructure associated with: food, energy, water, transportation, buildings, waste management systems, and future uncertainties. Abstracts that provide cutting edge insights, case study results, and methods are welcome!
- Advances in sustainability assessment methods
- As data and computational abilities increase, new methods are discovered. We want to hear about your advancements! Topics may include data science and analytics, machine learning, multi-objective analyses, and other methods for emerging systems, technologies, and environmental issues.
- Sustainability education
- The approaches for the community, K-12, and higher education are ever-evolving and we want to learn from you!
- Other creative sustainability-related topics
- ISSST has long encouraged participants to dream big and try new approaches to realize the sustainable futures we work toward. Please consider sharing new methods and ideas that demonstrate unique partnerships, big ideas, perspectives from non-STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) disciplines.
Participants are invited to submit abstracts for oral and/or poster presentations through https://www.conftool.org/issst2022. Abstracts should be approximately 150 words and will be reviewed relative to four criteria:
- Impact
- Originality
- Technical Quality
- Completeness
During abstract submission, the thematic area most appropriate for the abstract can be indicated. A preference for an oral presentation, poster presentation, or no preference will be indicated at the time of abstract submission. The program committee will evaluate abstracts for acceptance into the program, designate them to an oral or poster presentation, and place them within thematically organized sessions. Inquiries should be directed to issstnetwork@conoscente.net.
We are also accepting workshop proposals for the ISSST 2022 Conference. Workshops will be held in Pittsburgh, PA either the day before the conference, or the morning of June 21st.
